Workshops for Adults
We customize our workshops! Below we have listed a few of the workshops we have presented. If you would like more information, please contact us!
Puppets in the Classroom or Library
Instructor: Heidi Rugg
We are available to meet with teachers and librarians to demonstrate effective ways to use puppets with young children. Heidi brings examples of short and effective programs, a bin full of books that educators can peruse, and a short workbook with lots of helpful tips. Learn more about how puppetry can aid in self-expression, further develop literacy skills, and augment curriculum in science, cultural studiens, history, and other subject matter. (Adults)
Springs & Things - A workhsop for rod puppet builders
Instructor: Heidi Rugg
Learn about extension springs, compression springs, and other materials that have unique applications in puppetry. During this workshop, Heidi demonstrates many of her own designs used in her rod puppets. Particpants build their own moving-mouth mechanism for a rod puppet and see examples of rod-puppets first hand! Heidi has done this workshop for puppeteers from all over the country and always provides a bin full of books to look at for further inspiration. (For great puppet books, we recommend The Puppetry Bookstore!)
Foot-Cued Sound System for Puppeteers
Instructor: Sam Rugg
Sam developed an amazing way for puppeteers to cue their own sound systems using a special kind of CD player, some doorbell buttons from a hardware store, and some odd-n-ends from Radio Shack. Barefoot Puppets has used this system for hundreds and hundreds of shows to seamlessly cue the music for our performances. Sam has done this workshop for performers from all over the country at National and Regional Festivals for Puppeteers of America.
